Massachusetts Police Association Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Massachusetts Police Association
Introduction
The Massachusetts Police Association offers annual scholarships for students who are the children of MPA members in good standing. Eligibility extends to children of active or retired members, as well as children of members who were in good standing at the time of their death. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in or actively attending a college or university.
Eligibility and Conditions
- Only one MPA scholarship may be awarded to any individual.
- Recipients are expected to continue their education during the school year immediately following the award. If a recipient fails to enroll for that school year, the scholarship funds must be returned to the Association’s treasury.
Awards and Payment Schedule
- Scholarships are issued as general awards. There will be seven (7) scholarships awarded in each of the five (5) geographic regions, for a total award pool of $35,000.
- Each scholarship is $1,000.00. The Treasurer of the Massachusetts Police Association will issue the full $1,000 to the student after receiving the student’s second-semester tuition bill.
How to Apply
Applications for the Annual Scholarship Awards are currently being accepted. Because the number of applicants rose substantially last year, competition is expected to be strong again. To ensure fairness, applicants must follow every instruction on the application carefully.
Essay Requirement
Applicants must complete an essay (biographical sketch) written by the student. The Committee requests that the essay:
- Describe the applicant’s financial needs in detail;
- Outline educational and career plans;
- Provide examples from life that demonstrate resourcefulness and character;
- List any academic honors, awards, or scholarships previously received; and
- Describe community service or other civic involvement.
This essay should be attached to the online application when submitted.
Important Note
Several applications were disqualified last year for not following the application directions. Please make sure your submission complies with all requirements.
