Overview
ASME offers scholarships specifically for graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue engineering studies. These awards target students entering mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology programs. Recipients must begin full-time study in an ABET-accredited* (or substantially equivalent**) program no later than the fall term immediately following their high school graduation. Scholarships cover the first year of study only and are not renewable.
Who is eligible
- Graduating high school seniors intending to enroll full-time in a mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology program.
- Enrollment must be in an ABET-accredited* or substantially equivalent** program and must begin by the fall after the student’s senior year.
- Awards apply to first-year study only (non-renewable).
Important dates (2026–2027 award cycle)
- Application opens: December 1, 2025 (for the 2026–2027 academic year)
- Application deadline: March 15
- Notification to applicants: by July 31
- Scholarship payments sent to the institution: by September 1
Payment information
Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the recipient’s college or university. Checks will be made payable to the school for application to educational expenses; recipients will not receive cash payments.
