About HFM
- Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan (HFM) was established in 1956 and is the sole chapter in Michigan dedicated to serving people affected by bleeding disorders. Our mission is to improve quality of life for those impacted by hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, other coagulation disorders, and related conditions including HIV/AIDS and hepatitis.
Scholarship overview
- Award: Two scholarships, each valued at $2,500.
- Purpose: Support Michigan residents connected to the bleeding disorders community who are pursuing post-secondary education.
Who may apply
- Applicants must live in Michigan and be part of the bleeding disorders community. Eligible educational paths include community college, four-year college or university, graduate programs, and trade or vocational schools.
- Eligible applicants include people with bleeding disorders and immediate family members (parent, sibling, or grandchild) of someone with a bleeding disorder. (Note: clotting disorders are not eligible for this scholarship.)
- Previous applicants may apply again.
- Individuals who have received this particular scholarship in the past are not eligible.
- Relatives of HFM staff are not eligible.
Application process
- Submit the online application in full.
- Upload a personal statement to the application.
- Upload documentation verifying the bleeding disorder: a letter from your health care provider confirming the diagnosis. Do not submit medical records.
- Upload one reference letter.
- No academic transcripts are required for this year’s cycle.
- Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.
- Applicants are scored using a rubric; please review the rubric before submitting.
Timeline and award details
- Applicants will be notified of award decisions by April 3, 2026.
- Scholarship certificates will be presented during SpringFest weekend (April 18–19, 2026), with the presentation scheduled for Sunday morning.
- Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s school in fall 2026.
