Overview The Edison Scholars Program celebrates high school students who are innovators, problem-solvers and leaders — the future inventors, protectors and pioneers who pursue ambitious goals. Edison International will grant thirty (30) college scholarships of $50,000 each (paid as $12,500 per year for up to four years) to help outstanding seniors study science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) and contribute to a cleaner energy future. Since 2006, the program has awarded more than $16.5 million to 790 students. Key dates - 2025 application period is open now and closes January 23, 2025. Who may apply (Eligibility) Applicants must satisfy every item below: - Be a high school senior with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). - Reside within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) service territory. - Have an SCE Customer Number from the family’s SCE utility bill. - Intend to enroll full-time in an accredited, four‑year U.S. college or university for the 2025–2026 academic year. - Plan to pursue an eligible STEM major such as computer and information systems, engineering, engineering technology, management information systems, mathematics, natural resources and conservation, or physical sciences. - Demonstrate financial need. Dependents of Edison International and Southern California Edison employees or retirees are not eligible. Application process & materials - The selection process will produce 50 finalists; those finalists will be asked to submit a short video as part of final consideration. - Applicants will be asked to provide academic records, an impact statement and a challenging‑circumstances essay, an online recommendation, and documentation that demonstrates financial need. Awards and renewal - Up to thirty (30) scholarships will be awarded. Each award provides $12,500 per year for up to four years (totaling $50,000), renewable annually for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever comes first. - Renewal depends on satisfactory academic progress, continued full‑time enrollment in an eligible major at a four‑year institution, and the continued existence of the program. Previously awarded renewal commitments will be honored under their original terms. - All awards are for undergraduate study only. Recipients who attend a United States Military Academy will receive a one‑time, non‑renewable award. - After completing their first year of college, Edison Scholars are eligible to apply for a paid summer internship with Southern California Edison; internship offers require meeting the company’s hiring and screening criteria. How recipients are chosen Decision factors include: - Academic record - Financial need - Leadership and extracurricular/community involvement - Work experience - Impact statement and essay describing challenging circumstances - An online recommendation Preference will be given to students who are the first in their family to attend college. The program is competitive; not every applicant will be named a finalist, and not every finalist will be selected as a recipient. Applicants agree to accept the selection decisions as final.
