Texas Urban Scholarship Fund

The Urban Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to graduating high school seniors as well as entering or returning college students who are enrolled full-time at an accredited nonprofit public or independent two- or four-year college/university or technical school. Awards are issued annually: $700 for students attending community, junior, or technical colleges; $1,000 for students at public four-year colleges/universities; and $2,000 for students at independent (private) four-year institutions. Payments are made in two equal installments (one per semester).
Eligibility
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student.
- Open to U.S. citizens (no ID required) or permanent residents (must submit a front-and-back copy of Form I-551).
- Must be a Texas resident.
- Demonstrated financial need is required: Expected Family Contribution (EFC) must not exceed 1500 — NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Submit an essay of at least 500 words addressing this prompt: “Learning life lessons is necessary for personal growth and development. What is one of the biggest lessons you have learned? What did it teach you?”
- Must be a graduate of a high school located in one of the following 41 Texas cities — NO EXCEPTIONS:
Abilene, Allen, Amarillo, Arlington, Austin, Beaumont, Brownsville, Carrollton, College Station, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Fort Worth, Frisco, Garland, Grand Prairie, Houston, Irving, Killeen, Laredo, League City, Lewisville, Lubbock, McAllen, McKinney, Mesquite, Midland, Odessa, Pasadena, Pearland, Plano, Richardson, Round Rock, San Angelo, San Antonio, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Tyler, Waco, Wichita Falls.
