CAPED Scholarships

Introductory statement
Since 1982, the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED) has provided scholarship support to students with disabilities who are pursuing postsecondary studies. Applications are posted online each year from May 1 through August 31.
Eligibility overview
The following are the baseline eligibility criteria that apply to all CAPED scholarships. Individual awards may have additional or stricter requirements—refer to each Scholarship Description and its “Eligibility Alerts” for any special conditions.
Basic requirements
- Enrollment and disability services: You must be currently enrolled at a California college or university and be an active participant in that institution’s disability support office or program.
- Required documentation: A completed Disability Certification Form must be included with your application; other types of disability verification cannot be accepted.
- Grade point average: Undergraduate applicants need a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Graduate applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Note: Certain scholarships may set a higher GPA requirement; review the “Eligibility Alerts” on the relevant scholarship description for any exceptions.
- Course load completed: Undergraduate students must have finished at least 6 semester units (or 8 quarter units). Graduate students must have completed at least 3 semester units (or 4 quarter units).
- Required documentation: Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the application and will be used to confirm your cumulative GPA and completed units.
- Upcoming fall enrollment: You must plan to enroll in classes at a California college or university for the upcoming fall term.
- Proof of enrollment: If awarded, you will be required to submit proof of fall enrollment to receive funds.
- Prior CAPED awards: You are not eligible if you received a CAPED scholarship within the last two years.
