Every year, the Santa Rosa branch of the Ninety-Nines International Women Pilots Organization presents a scholarship to a local female pilot. This scholarship is designed to allocate funds toward a specific certification or rating in flight training, or ongoing education, aiding the awardee in her journey towards a career in aviation.

Qualification Criteria

  • Any female pilot with a current private license, a valid medical certificate, and a recent flight review is qualified.
  • The candidate should have a plan to pursue a career in any aviation field, with a focus on flight training or education.
  • The candidate must live within a 150-mile radius of the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, CA.
  • The candidate must meet the requirements for the rating that they are applying for (e.g., required flight hours, required ratings, medical certificate) and must have fulfilled the written prerequisites for the rating before the scholarship fund is distributed.
  • The candidate must be minimum 17 years of age.
  • While being a member of the Ninety-Nines or the Santa Rosa Chapter is not a requirement, candidates may be members.
  • Former recipients of the Santa Rosa Ninety-Nines aviation scholarship are not qualified.

How to Apply

  • The application must be thoroughly filled out using the provided form. Self-generated computer forms or altered formats are not acceptable.
  • Candidates must meet the qualification criteria. The Santa Rosa Ninety-Nines scholarship committee will verify eligibility.
  • All applications should be postmarked no later than midnight on August 15, 2025.

A panel of three local aviation community members will assess the scholarship applications. Evaluation criteria will include:

  • Aviation activities as detailed in a personal essay and supported by references.
  • The potential to achieve stated goals, as evidenced by references, academic and professional records.
  • Dedication to aviation as depicted in the personal essay and supported by references.
  • Evident financial need.

The Santa Rosa Ninety-Nines scholarship committee will inform the successful applicant and all other applicants by October 31, 2025.

Scholarship Details

  • The scholarship is worth $5000 and must be utilized within a year from the date it is awarded.
  • The scholarship funds can be used toward academic tuition, technical school fees, or flight training.
  • Payments will be made from the receipts, which document the training. Receipts need to be signed by both the student and the instructor and must include logbook copies if relevant.
  • The scholarship funds should be used for only one rating or certificate.
