Scholarship Sponsored by Dante Club
Introduction
This scholarship is open to students of Italian heritage who have a close family connection to the Dante Club or Dante Club Auxiliary. Eligible candidates include graduating high school seniors or students currently attending an accredited college, university, or vocational school. The relative who establishes eligibility must be a parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, aunt, or uncle who is a member in good standing of the Dante Club or Dante Club Auxiliary.
Eligibility and general information
- Relationship and heritage: Applicants must be of Italian descent and have a qualifying relative (parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, aunt, or uncle) who is a current, active member of the Dante Club or Dante Club Auxiliary.
- Student status: Open to graduating high school seniors or those already enrolled at an accredited postsecondary institution (college, university, or vocational school). Any field of study is acceptable.
- Enrollment verification: Awardees (or their institution) must submit proof of enrollment at an accredited college, university, or vocational school before scholarship funds are released.
- Use of funds: Scholarships will be paid directly to the accredited institution on the recipient’s behalf. Funds may be applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies, and/or room and board.
- Award timing and amount: Scholarships are granted in the Spring/Summer of the award year. The number of awards and the amount available will depend on funds. Individual awards may be up to $1,500. All eligible students are encouraged to apply.
Applicant responsibilities
- Applicants are responsible for completing the application and supplying all required materials listed below. Missing or incomplete documentation may disqualify an application.
- Any additional materials submitted after the initial application must include the student’s full name and be sent “c/o Scholarship Committee.”
Required application materials (checklist)
1. Completed Dante Club application form with all required signatures (student and parent).
2. Two letters of recommendation from individuals who are not family members.
3. Official transcript from high school or current educational institution covering the full period of enrollment.
4. A two-page personal essay describing:
- Educational and career goals
- Extracurricular and community activities (for example: volunteer/service work, academic clubs, civic organizations, student government, leadership roles, athletics)
- Personal and economic challenges (if any)
- Honors and awards received
- How this scholarship will assist you in reaching your objectives
- A list of all other scholarships you have applied for and/or received, including the names and amounts of those scholarships
5. Note: Finalists may be asked to participate in a panel interview.
