Think about the variety of career paths a young woman finishing high school or college might list today — the choices seem nearly endless. That wasn’t always the case, as Janet Chaniot, a teacher and member of the Mendocino College board, reminded me. She remembers a period when options for women were far more restricted. She weighed journalism and teaching, spent time working on the Michigan Daily at the University of Michigan, and ultimately found teaching to be the better fit — a decision she calls “a good choice.”
