Intro
Each year the Ebony Pearls Foundation, together with partner community groups, holds a Scholarship Reception to award financial assistance to deserving high school seniors across the county. Awards are granted to students who meet the stated standards for academic achievement, community involvement, and recommendations from community leaders.
About Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was the first Greek-letter organization established by college-educated African American women. Built on a commitment to service to all mankind, AKA operates internationally and supports local and global philanthropic efforts. The San Diego Chapter has been funding student scholarships since its charter in 1949.
Who may apply
- Open to African American/African Diaspora female high school seniors (males may be eligible for select awards where specified) who live in San Diego County*.
- Applicants must plan to enroll in an accredited college in Fall 2025 — a four-year institution unless a two-year college is explicitly allowed for a particular award.

- Include your personal essay and be sure to sign or e-sign the final page before emailing the completed packet.
- Have your official transcript sent directly from your school to the email address indicated on the application.
General note
Applicants will automatically be considered for any and all scholarships for which they meet the eligibility requirements.
Ebony Pearls Traditional Scholarships — minimum award $1,000 (multiple recipients)
Requirements:
- Must be an African American or African Diaspora female graduating from a San Diego County* high school.
- Accepted to and planning to enroll in an accredited four-year college/university by Fall 2025.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a school official).
- Completed application submitted as the fillable PDF (no handwritten applications).
- Official transcript sent directly from the school.
- Recent formal color portrait (a senior portrait is recommended).
- At least 40 hours of community service completed during grades 9–12.
